Consonants

The letters (, , , , , , , ) appear in the words that are of Arabic origin, in which language they have distinct sounds. In Persian, the original spellings have been kept, while the Arabic sounds have been changed to more acceptable to, and already existing in, Persian speech. The same applies to the letter , except that it originates from the older Persian language, in which it was used for the sound 'th' as in 'three', which is no longer used in modern Persian.
